Pues estaba yo en mitad de esta maldita pandemia, cuando se me plantea un viaje relámpago a Granada, una vez que estaban recién abiertas las limitaciones a moverse dentro de Andalucía.

🇬🇧 Well, I was in the middle of this damn pandemic, when a friend presented myself with a lightning trip to Granada, once the limitations to move within Andalusia had just been opened.

El viaje en cuestión sería partir la tarde del 15 de Junio, tras salir ileso de la visita al dentista de mi amigo Leo, y llegar a Granada para la hora de la cena, hacer noche y disponer de la mañana del día 16 hasta después de comer, que volveríamos a Sevilla. Y ante la falta de cosas que hacer en Sevilla, cogí y me fui junto a mi acompañante. El viaje de Sevilla a Granada en coche dura unas dos horas, dos horas y cuarto y es bastante tranquilo todo por autovía.

Una vez llegamos, nos acomodamos en el hotel y nos fuimos al centro en busca de algún establecimiento abierto donde saciar el apetito.

🇬🇧 The trip in question would be, leaving Seville the afternoon of June 15, after finish unharmed the visit of my friend Leo’s dentist, and arriving in Granada for dinner, spending the night and having free the morning of the 16th and after have lunch, go back to Seville. And in the absence of things to do in Seville, I went with my companion. The trip from Seville to Granada by car takes about two hours, two and a quarter hours and is quite calm, all by motorway.

Once we arrived, we settled into the hotel and went to the old center in search of some open establishment where to satisfy the appetite.

Y aquí fue la primera vez (la segunda sería al día siguiente de visita por el barrio del Albaicín y largo paseo por los exteriores de la Alhambra, que lamentablemente no abriría hasta el día siguiente) que sentí algo de lastima de la falta de viandantes por las calles y de ver que la mayoría de negocios de hostelería permanecían cerrados debidos al covid, con lo cual pasear por la ciudad alrededor de las 9 de la noche, era casi como hacerlo a altas horas de la madrugada…

Al fin, encontramos un pequeño bar cuya especialidad era el jamón y los productos del ibérico y allí nos quedamos, degustando las variedades del mismo y destacando una pluma ibérica que nos supo a gloria, todo regado por una botella de Juan Gil de la DO Jumilla que estaba también muy rico.

Al acabar quedamos con unos colegas de trabajo de mi acompañante, que iba a Granada por ello y logramos encontrar un pequeño bar de copas abierto donde debíamos estar las 10-12 personas que había en la calle esa noche en Granada y donde pudimos tomarnos un par de cacharros de forma muy agradable. Y de aquí al hotel a descansar.

A la mañana siguiente madrugué, no se si por extrañar la cama, y aunque tenía el desayuno incluido en el hotel, era tan temprano que aún no habían abierto casi las calles, por lo que me fui dando un paseo al centro histórico de Granada, que estaba a escasos 10 minutos y, tranquilamente, localicé primero una farmacia para encontrar algo para la ardentía de estómago debido a la suculenta cena de la noche anterior, (bueno también por las dos copas), y seguido traté de localizar un lugar donde poder tomarme un buen café con alguna tostada con aceite de oliva virgen extra y jamón ibérico de bellota y ante la dificultad de encontrar algún lugar en condiciones, seguí la recomendación que me dio la amable farmacéutica y para mi sorpresa, acabe en el mismo bar del producto ibérico donde habíamos cenado la noche antes y que debía ser de lo poco que había abierto en todo el centro de Granada.

Tras un buen y abundante desayuno, me dispuse a seguir paseando por Granada y aunque sabía que la Alhambra, maldita mi suerte, permanecía cerrada por el coronavirus hasta el día siguiente, me fui camino del barrio del Albaicín, preparándome para las cuestas que me esperaban.

Pasear por el Albaicín es simplemente maravilloso y sus vistas de la Alhambra, la ciudad de Granada y Sierra Nevada son simplemente increíbles.

Una vez llegue al Mirador de San Nicolas, hice una parada para recuperar fuerzas de la subida y para tomarme un refrigerio y aceptar las tapas que te sirven con cada bebida, como es típico en Granada, así que con ello prácticamente me di por comido y continué mi visita, esta vez cuesta abajo disfrutando de los recovecos del Albaicín y las magníficas vistas que te ofrece en cada esquina, para luego recorrerme el perímetro exterior de la Alhambra, empezando por la cuesta del Darro, cruzando el puente y siguiendo la ruta que tomo Boabdil, apodado «El Rey Chico» en su huida hacia el Albaicín en 1.482, llamada «Cuesta del Rey Chico» o «Cuesta de los Chinos» para encabezar la rebelion que se estaba gestando contra su propio padre y de la cual teneis mas detalle en las fotos al final de este articulo.

A lo largo de mi paseo por el Albaicín y por la Alhambra no exagero si os digo que me encontré no más de 4 personas/turistas, una familia al subir el Albaicín y un chico con una mochila al comenzar mi paseo bordeando la Alhambra, lo cual aunque placentero ya que parecía que era todo unicamente para mi, también me producía inquietud y algo de lástima, sobre todo pensando en los comercios y empresarios y el sufrimiento que han de estar pasando con toda esta maldita pandemia.

Y de aquí, llegue a Granada centro de nuevo, desde donde paseé observando, esta vez si, las numerosas tiendas que había abiertas, y parándome en algunas que llamaron mi atención, destacando entre otros, un pequeño establecimiento que ofrecia tés, uno chiquitin de lectura y una tienda de ropa para hombres en la que me gustaron algunas cosillas de la zona casual. De todas ellas tambien teneis detalle fotográfico mas abajo.

De vuelta al hotel, cafelito ☕️ de camino y para Sevilla, acabando mi visita relámpago a la ciudad de Granada, a la cual, nunca me canso de volver cada vez que puedo por su increíble belleza y sentimientos que en mi despierta.

🇬🇧 And here was the first time (the second would be the day after visiting the Albaicín neighborhood and a long walk through the exteriors of the Alhambra, which unfortunately would not open until the next day) that I felt a bit of pity at the lack of pedestrians over the streets and seeing that most hospitality businesses were closed due to the covid, so walking around the city around 21 hour, it was almost like doing it late at night…

At last, we found a small bar whose specialty was Spanish ham and Iberian products and we stayed there, tasting the varieties of it and highlighting an Iberian meat that tasted like glory, all accompanied by a bottle of Juan Gil from DO Jumilla that it was also very tasty.

When we finished we met some work colleagues of my companion, who was going to Granada for it and we managed to find a small cocktail bar open where the 10-12 people who were on the street that night in Granada should be there and where we could have a couple of long drinks in a very pleasant way. After here to the hotel to rest.

The next morning I got up early, I do not know if I missed my home bed, and although I had breakfast included in the hotel, it was so early that the streets had not almost opened yet, so I took a walk to the historic center of Granada, It was just 10 minutes away, and calmly, I located a pharmacy first to find something for the heartburn due to the succulent dinner of the previous night, (well, also the long drinks), and then I tried to locate a place where I could have a good coffee with some toast with extra virgin olive oil and Iberian Spanish ham and given the difficulty of finding a suitable place, I followed the recommendation given by the friendly pharmacist and to my surprise, ended up in the same bar where we had dinner the night which musted be one of the little opened in the entire center of Granada.

After a good and abundant breakfast, I prepared to continue walking through Granada and although I knew that the Alhambra, damn my luck, remained closed by the coronavirus until the next day, I went on my way to the Albaicín neighborhood, preparing for the slopes that awaited me…

Walking through the Albaicín is simply wonderful and its views of the Alhambra, the city of Granada and Sierra Nevada are simply incredible.

Once I arrived at the «Mirador de San Nicolás», I made a stop to regain strength from the climb and to have a snack and accept the tapas that are served with each drink, as is typical in Granada, so with this I practically took it for food and I continued my visit, this time downhill enjoying the nooks and crannies of the Albaicín and the magnificent views it offers you at each corner, and then touring the outer perimeter of the Alhambra, starting at the «Cuesta del Darro», crossing the bridge and following the route that took «Boabdil», nicknamed «El Rey Chico» in his run away to the Albaicín at 1.482, called «Cuesta del Rey Chico» or «Cuesta de los Chinos» to lead the rebellion that was brewing against his own father and of which you have more details in the photos at the end of this article.

Throughout my walk through the Albaicín and the Alhambra I am not exaggerating if I tell you that I met no more than 4 people/tourists, a family going up the Albaicín and a boy with a backpack when I started my walk bordering the Alhambra, which was although pleasant since it seemed that it was all just for me, also made me uneasy and feel a little worry, especially thinking about the shops and businessmen and the suffering that must be happening with all this bloody pandemic.

After here, I arrived in Granada center downtown again, from where I walked, observing, this time yes, many stores that had opened, and stopping at some that caught my attention, highlighting among others, a small establishment that offered teas, a small one of reading and a men’s wear store where I liked some things from the casual area. Back at the hotel, coffee ☕️ on the way and get back to Seville, ending my lightning visit to the city of Granada, to which, I never get tired of returning every time I can because of its incredible beauty and feelings that awake me.
