Lyon es una ciudad del sureste de Francia en la región histórica de Ródano-Alpes, se ubica en la unión de los ríos Ródano y Saona y a escasos 140km en coche de Suiza (Ginebra). Su centro refleja dos mil años de historia, con el Anfiteatro romano de las Tres Galias, arquitectura medieval y renacentista en el Viejo Lyon, y el moderno distrito Confluence en la península de la Presquîle. Tiene algo más de 500.000 habitantes y aunque es la tercera ciudad más grande de Francia tras París y Marsella, es la segunda en cuanto al tamaño del área urbana, tras París.

Desde el taxi (65€), el tren Rhônexpress el que yo utilicé, trenes en ambos sentidos cada 15 minutos, duración de unos 25-30 minutos y con un coste ida/vuelta de 26€ aprox. si lo haces anticipadamente desde Internet. También está la opción de blablacar, el más económico, con trayectos a partir de 6€, si no te importa esperar un poco y compartir trayecto con desconocidos.

Lyon tiene una amplia oferta hotelera pero yo me decidí por un apartamento a través de Airbnb en el barrio de Part Dieu, uno de los mejores situados de la ciudad, muy cerca de Vieux Lyon o casco histórico y a un precio muy interesante.

Los atractivos de Lyon se concentran en los barrios históricos de Vieux Lyon, Presqu’île, Croix-Rousse y Fourvière, declarados Patrimonio de la Humanidad.

Hay una red de metro bastante grande en Lyon, pero yo aconsejo andar y aunque es una ciudad grande, así se puede disfrutar mejor de la cultura, las gentes y los numerosos pequeños detalles que ofrece esta ciudad.

The attractions of Lyon are concentrated in the historic neighborhoods of Vieux Lyon, Presqu’île, Croix-Rousse and Fourvière, declared World Heritage Sites.

There is a fairly large metro network in Lyon, although I advise you to walk, although it is a large city, but this way you can better enjoy the culture, people and the numerous small details that this city offers.

A través de este recorrido que os propongo, pude visitar la mayoría de puntos de interés principales de Lyon y es extensible a casi cualquier lugar donde estéis hospedados.

Through this route that I propose, I was able to visit most of Lyon’s main points of interest and it can be done from almost any place where you are staying.

El punto de partida es el Pont (puente) de la Guillotière, donde podéis contemplar una bonita panorámica de Lyon cruzando el Ródano. Desde aquí podréis admirar el increíble Hôtel Dieu, antiguo hospital hoy convertido en hotel.

Cruzamos el puente y nos encontramos con La Place Bellecour, una de las plazas más grandes de Europa (55.000 m² aprox.), aunque en mi opinión, es lo único que tiene destacable. Si tomamos cualquiera de las calles a la derecha, llegaremos a la Ópera de Lyon (1.831) u Ópera Nouvel (por la amplia remodelación llevada a cabo por el prestigioso arquitecto Jean Nouvel) pero en el camino hacia la ópera no os perdáis tampoco la Place de la République, la Place des Jacobins o las fachadas del Palais de la Bourse y el Théâtre des Célestins. En esta zona podréis encontrar numerosos cafés locales e internacionales (tipo Starbucks), pero lo más interesante son los pequeños comercios locales de Quesos, Vinos y Ropa clásica.

De aquí nos desplazamos a la Place des Terraux, coronada por el Hôtel de Ville (ayuntamiento) de 1651. Si te gustan las pinacotecas, no te puedes perder el Musée des Beaux-arts, con 35 salas dedicadas a la pintura. Y en medio de la plaza destaca la Fuente Bartholdi, obra de Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, autor de la Estatua de la Libertad.

De aquí, cruzamos el puente pero esta vez saliendo de la Presqu’île en dirección a Fourvière, y sobre el río Saona, afluente del Ródano, nos encontramos con uno de los elementos urbanísticos más curiosos de Lyon que son sus Traboules, (“Hôtel Bullioud”, “Tour Rose”) patios interiores que permiten el acceso entre calles y de los cuales hay más de 500 en la ciudad, la mitad de ellos en el Vieux Lyon. Bajamos ahora en dirección a la Catedral de Lyon Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste, al pie de Fourvière y ya en el barrio del Vieux-Lyon, de los siglos XII al XV en estilos románico y gótico, aunque antes, podemos parar en el el Musee du Cinema et de la Miniature interesante si se va con niños o se es muy cinéfilo, teniendo en cuanta que los hermanos Lumière grabaron aquí la que se dice primera película de la historia del cine, así como el Institut Lumière al otro lado de la ciudad y fundado por sus descendientes.

Desde la Catedral podemos tomar el teleférico o tren para subir a la Basílica Notre-Dame de Fourvière (1884), realizada en estilo neo bizantino que ofrece una vistas magníficas sobre Lyon. Los que estén en forma, pueden atreverse a callejear y subir andando, aunque preparaos para sufrir…

Y de aquí podemos bajar a disfrutar de la vista de los Teatros romanos de Fourvière, conjunto arqueológico galorromano que comprende joyas como el Teatro Antiguo de Lyon (15 a.C.). y colina abajo las Termas romanas e Iglesia Saint-Just (1.663) dos lugares que si aún disponéis de algo de tiempo y ganas, merecen al menos una breve visita.

And from here we can go down to enjoy the view of the Roman Theaters of Fourvière, a Gallo-Roman archaeological ensemble that includes jewels such as the Old Theater of Lyon (15 BC), and down the Roman Baths and Saint-Just Church (1,663) two places that if you still have some time and desire, deserve at least a brief visit.

De comida no puedo contaros mucho, ya que solo paré a tomar algún café o refrigerio en la calle y lo poco que comí, lo hice en el maravilloso apartamento que escogí y aprovechando que me llovió en algunos tramos de mi corto viaje y no llevaba paraguas.

Me quedé con las ganas de pararme un poquito más en los lugares de interés y disfrutar algo más de la cultura y gastronomía local y contemplar los barrios y sus gentes simplemente parado en algún viejo local tomando café, vino o copa disfrutando de una amena charla.

I cannot tell you much about food, since I only stopped to have some coffee or snack in the street and what little I ate, I did it in the wonderful apartment that I chose and taking advantage that it rained in some sections of my short trip and did not carry an umbrella.

I wanted to stop a little more in the places of interest and enjoy some more of the local culture and cuisine and contemplate the neighborhoods and its people simply standing in some old place drinking coffee, wine or drink enjoying a pleasant talk.
